Exactly at midnight, Google changed its doodle to commemorate Columbus Day. On this date we remember the dispatch of Christopher Columbus to the Americas on October 12, 1492 believing that they were arriving in the Indies. Surely in many places will be discussed intensively on how appropriate is that it celebrates this date and claiming the rights of indigenous peoples. Without wishing to ignore the past, I prefer to stay with a thought of Claude Levi-Strauss I quoted in this post four years ago
"... is an event far more important than having reached the moon, because has gone to the moon, but there was nothing there. And for men of the late fifteenth century, America was as far as the moon and so difficult to achieve. Half the world was an incredible wealth for its fauna, flora, and their cultures. I understand very well that time is concluded that mankind has discovered half of herself. "
